Rebecca Gibney: “I contemplated taking my life”

The beloved actress speaks out about her mental illness battle.

Rebecca Gibney is one of Australia’s brightest lights, but the 53-year-old is lifting the lid about a dark period in her life.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, the Packed to the Rafters alum admitted she thought about suicide.

“I also suffered severe depression in my thirties and contemplated taking my life,” the mum-of-one shared.

“No one knew how I was feeling. On the surface I had the perfect life — great job, wonderful family and friends but inside I was dying.”

The actress shared that a friend suggested she seek help through a psychologist.

“She literally saved my life,” says Gibney.

Speaking to those who are battling their inner demons, Gibney said, “Please if you ever feel this way there is always someone that will listen. It’s one step at a time but you do matter and you can get through it.”

Gibney joins a slew of celebrities, including her Rafter’s co-star Hugh Sheridan, who will feature in a series of images called Imperfectly Perfect.

The campaign was created by photographer Glenn Marden who lost a friend to suicide.
