Former Bachelorette star Luke McLeod said he has more freedom in Sydney’s current COVID-19 lockdown than he did in the mansion.

Luke told Stellar Magazine he’s “done this all before” after being “locked in a mansion with 20 other blokes” during his time on the dating show.

“At least now, I can go for a walk in nature and I can make phone calls. Back then I could only go out in the garden and we only got our phones once a week to make a quick call to family,” he said.

Contestants on The Bachelor and Bachelorette aren’t allowed to leave the mansion unless it’s for a one-on-one or group date, ultimately leaving them in isolation from the outside world.

“Humans don’t respond well to uncertainty and with this lockdown in particular, there seems to be more and more of it.”

Luke was sent home from Sophie’s season of The Bachelorette in the seventh episode, and went on to appear on Bachelor In Paradise the following year where he found love with Lisa Hyde.

But after they left Paradise early to pursue their relationship in the real world, the pair broke up after Luke reportedly cheated on a boy’s night.

A friend of the former couple told The Daily Telegraph at the time that Luke “was out with the lads and hooked up with a 19-year-old girl.”

Luke is now in a relationship with health and fitness publicist Brittany Bennett, who he has been dating since 2019.

Since his stints on reality TV, Luke has launched his own virtual meditation studio called Soul Alive.

Despite being a meditation teacher, Luke said it’s okay not to be calm 24/7, particularly during a lockdown.

“What I’ve learnt is that it’s OK to feel 5 out of 10. We’re constantly striving for ‘10 out of 10’ days, but it’s a natural part of life to not feel that way all the time. It’s about being grateful to be on the scale,” he said.

Luke also credited going on the show with being able to meet Brittany, saying he’s grateful for the experience.

“There’s no doubt I’ve been able to reach more people and talk about mindfulness,” he said.
