Married at First Sight’s Tahnee Cook and Ollie Skelton have announced their split, 16 months after first meeting on the experimental dating show.
The couple who were one of the success stories of Season 10 confirmed the news via separate statements on Instagram.
“Just as I share the highlights of my life on here, it’s only fair for me to share when things aren’t always fun,” Tahnee wrote on Instagram.
“Sadly, Ollie and I have decided to part ways. Our lives are taking us in different directions and we feel at this stage it’s the best decision for us. From meeting as strangers who got “married”, to genuinely finding love, I’m pretty proud of the time we’ve shared.”
“Our journey together has been such a roller coaster but sometimes relationships just don’t work out – no matter how much you want them to – and that’s okay.”
“I’m so thankful for what these last 16 months has taught me, and for the genuinely supportive community I’ve found on here. Break ups are never easy but heartbreak is worth it in the pursuit of love.”
“Hello, Tahnee and I have split up. It’s sad, but it’s okay,” Ollie wrote in his own statement on Instagram.
“What a ride! A journey filled with love, laughter, challenges, and in the last month, reflection. I think we tried really hard to make it work.”
“There is such a separation from Skye Suites to real life that I think is really hard to account for and (albeit not without trying) was an adjustment that we struggled to make.”
“I kinda have this pipe dream of us being like Jerry and Elaine from Seinfeld post-breakup, a very hard thing to do obviously, but the sentiment at its core is that I plan to try to be someone who champions Tahnee and can be there for her as a friend.”
“In a post like this, the words “friend” and “breakup” are usually synonymous but with little truth behind them. However, if friendship was the foundation of us before love, I like to think it might be something we can share in the aftermath.”
“That video is from last night, so I think we’re on the right track. ❤️”
Married at First Sight Australia season 10 saw audiences watch Tahnee and Ollie, the series’ youngest couple get married and fall in love. Compared to other couples of the season.
Now, as the couple announce their split, we’re looking back at Ollie and Tahnee’s journey on MAFS.
The Wedding
For Tahnee, 27, and Ollie, 26, the Married At First Sight Experiment was a last-ditch attempt at finding true love after struggling to make a connection in the real world.
And it went great! And as the experts explained, the following weeks would be an interesting look at how a younger generation will adapt to the challenge.
The pair had a number of similarities; they both hate dating apps, both value trust and are looking for genuine partners, and they both love Thai food – what could go wrong?
The Honeymoon
After a beautiful wedding, the couple enjoyed a stunning honeymoon where their relationship continued to strengthen.
After a day of massages and other Honeymoon-related activities, the pair confirmed with producers that they had slept together, claiming it was a “natural progression,” and that “it just kind of happened.”
Self-doubt and a couple swap
The couple swap week brought a new side of Ollie and Tahnee’s relationship to the front – and brought the couple closer.
The pair, who have been undoubtedly the strongest couple in the series found the challenge difficult.
“I think what it [the challenge] made me feel was, I was like, s**t, I’ve got insecurities and I wanted to be the one spending that time with Tahnee,” explained Ollie.
“It made me second guess like, have I done enough as a partner? I think I feel that in every facet of life quite a bit at times.”
“You are more than good enough for me. So please don’t feel that way,” replied Tahnee before the couple confirmed they were staying in the experiment.
The Final Vows
It came as no surprise when the couple sailed through their commitment ceremony during the last episode of the season.
Life after MAFS
In the weeks following the show, Ollie made the exciting announcement that he was leaving Perth and joining Tahnee in Sydney.
A few months later the couple announced they were moving into a house together!
Tahnee revealed the news on Instagram, sharing a sweet selfie of the couple alongside the caption: “From our lil Skye suites apartment to moving into a house together…who woulda thought!”
