Following the recent success of Special Ops: Lioness, Nicole Kidman has returned to television in the new drama series Expats.

Directed by Lulu Wang, Expats “weaves an addictive tapestry that follows a group of complex women and their lives as outsiders in Hong Kong,” Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke told Deadline.
Set in Hong Kong in 2014, the six-part series delves deep into the world of the city’s affluent expatriate community where “friendships are intense but knowingly temporary, and personal lives, deaths, and marriages are played out publicly then retold with glee.”

What is Expats about?
Based on The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee, Expats follows the story of an international community of expatriates who have settled in Hong Kong.
Although many had happily established their new life in Hong Kong, others began to seriously contemplate returning to their home country. As the group itched to spread their wings beyond Hong Kong, the community was suddenly grounded after a shocking family tragedy ripped through the expat community.
Who is the cast of Expats?
Starring as Margaret, a mother who has relocated her family to Hong Kong from the U.S., Nicole Kidman leads the talented Expats ensemble.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift star Brian Tee joins the cast as Margaret’s husband Clarke, with To All the Boys: Always and Forever’s Sarayu Blue starring as career-woman Hilary.
Smoking Tigers star Ji-young Yoo joins Expats as Mercy, a 24-year-old college graduate from New York City who through tragedy finds herself entangled in the complex world of the Hong Kong expat community.
When is Expats released?
Expats makes its global debut on January 26, 2024.
The six-part series is exclusive to Prime Video, with new episodes being released weekly until the finale episode on February 23, 2024.
