Season three of True Detective has a premiere date… and we are FREAKING OUT!
On August 25 after a three-year hiatus due to season two’s underwhelming ratings, HBO dropped the first trailer for season three. And boy, are we in for a treat!
From the first look, this season seems to have a similar tone to the first critically acclaimed season that followed two detectives as they hunted down a Louisiana killer.
And according to HBO, season three is set in the heart of the Arkansas Ozarks and follows state police detective Wayne Hays—played by House of Cards star Mahershala Ali—as he investigates a macabre crime which appears to be the kidnapping of a young child.
It’s a disturbing and disconcerting mystery that spans across numerous decades as the detective is hooked on cracking the case. But despite his best efforts, it’s clear he is haunted by something from his past, and as a result, is forced to wrestle with the consequences through three different time periods.
“My whole brain’s a bunch of missing pieces. My job…. there’s no certainty. This peace… is more haunting than anything. I want to know the whole story,” he says in the voiceover for the trailer.
Ali’s co-stars Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff and Scoot McNairy appear briefly in the teaser and it is said that Pizzolatoo wrote and directed the upcoming season alongside Daniel Sackheim, Jeremy Saulnier, and Deadwood mastermind David Milch.
True Detective is set to hit our screens in January 2019l
