Starring as the female lead in new film Aquaman (to be released next month) Amber Heard covers SHAPE magazine and talks beauty, fitness and standing up for herself.

The 32-year-old blonde bombshell last made headlines due to her very public divorce from actor Johnny Depp, but now she talks to the magazine about how hard she trained for her new movie.

Listing “red wine “and “chocolate” as some of her favourite foods, she says: “For Aquaman, I did six months of rigorous training. It was a lot of weight and strength training, as well as special martial arts training. By the end, I was working out for five hours a day.”

However when the actress isn’t working on a huge movie, she has a little more ‘freedom’ when it comes to her workout routine and prefers running she says it’s “a way for me to alleviate stress, clear my mind, and refocus

Amber also talks about skin and beauty: “I’m kind of nuts about my skin. I’m very careful with it. I’m pale, so I use sunblock every single day, and I’m really big on cleansing. The one product I can’t live without is red lipstick. Nothing is more transformative.”

Heard speaks about relying on her friends and strong women for support during hard times, she tells SHAPE, “Sometimes you can feel as if you’re standing up for something all alone “—on behalf of your physical safety, against an institution that is inherently flawed, or because you don’t believe that loving a certain person is wrong. I needed people I could rely on to shore me up. Strong women can help me get through anything.”

What you might be shocked to learn is that Amber has plenty of heart and speaks in detail about being an advocate for human rights, more specifically for SAMS (the Syrian American Medical Society) she says, “It’s so important to me to help others” and “such as speaking up on behalf of immigrant families around the U.S. border, or migrants in the Middle East who are among the hundreds of thousands in refugee camps.” The actress has personally assisted with medical missions in refugee camps in Jordan and expresses “There’s a lot to do, and a lot that can be done.”

Amber hasn’t let her past make her bitter though, instead she tells SHAPE “I’m very lucky for the relationships I’ve had. They have given me the muscle and heart to do what I do.”
