Why are the Golden Globes controversial?

In 2021, The Los Angeles Times investigated the organisation behind the Globes, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Their investigation found that the group had no black members, amongst other allegations of ethical improprieties, and the HFPA subsequently came under fire for its lack of diversity.

Already, Brendan Fraser, who has received a Golden Globe nomination for The Whale, announced he will not be attending. The actor has previously alleged he was groped in 2003 by Philip Berk, an HFPA member and former president.
