It just doesn’t seem to be getting any easier for Love Island bombshells to make a connection in the Villa this season. Week after week more bombshells are getting eliminated faster than they can enter.
And unfortunately, this week it was Maddy’s time to go.
As Maddy packs up and leaves the Villa, she spoke to WHO about her Love Island experience, revealing the surprising revelations she has made about being a bombshell, the contestants’ real intentions and who she thinks will win the season.
How do you feel about being dumped from the Villa? Were you expecting it?
I wasn’t expecting it. I was expecting I was going to have to go at some point, but it’s a shame because I really would have liked to explore that connection with bombshell Mitch. But once Tina walked in it was sort of like ‘aww now my chances have really been hindered here.’
And once I knew Casa Amor wouldn’t be happening this season, I sort of accepted my fate.
And what was it like being a bombshell? Do you think it was a bit of a disadvantage coming in so late?
Before I went in, I thought it would be an advantage to be the bombshell. But now I’ve lived the experience and I think being an OG would have put me in a much better standing.
Just to get that bit of a head start – coming in late is definitely so much harder than I realised. And I think all of the other bombshells would agree with me there.
It’s really hard to come into a group that’s already had these connections for so long. Knowing that they’re all threatened by you, and they know that you’re there to mess up the dynamics of the Villa. So yeah, it is hard.
But it has its advantages too. You kind of do get the green light to go in and pick whoever you want. Because there is that understanding that you really are there to not give a c**p about anyone else and follow your own heart. You kind of get a bit of a Get Out of Jail Free card.
And if you had the chance, would you still make all the same decisions? Or was there anything you wish you could have done differently?
Every decision I made, I made because it was genuine to myself, and it’s the same sort of decision I would make out in the real world.
I definitely could have made different decisions, but then it would not have been authentic.
It’s hard because you don’t know what you don’t know. Yeah, my experience might have been completely different. But would it have been better? Or would it have been worse? I’m not too sure.
So going forward, I can’t have any regrets. I’ve just got to keep going forward and looking forward to all opportunities that are going to come rather than thinking too much about the past.
And what would you say your Love Island highlight was during your time in the villa?
I really enjoyed the challenges, all of the challenges were fun and they brought us closer together as a group.
I also just loved watching the antics of the boys sometimes, like it was so good just to be a witness to some of the crazy stuff that they got up to. And then of course, my bonding time with the girls was really nice as well. Especially just chilling back and hanging by the pool. It was really fun.
Are there any game players in the villa? Is anyone not on the show to find love?
I don’t think anybody went into the Villa genuinely thinking that love was their number one priority.
I think everybody goes into the Villa for the experience of Love Island and to see the behind-the-scenes production because we’re all fans of the show.
I think love or finding connections is the secondary priority for everybody. There are some people that openly said that they weren’t really there for love and they weren’t there for a committed and exclusive sort of relationship – I was one of those people.
I went in there saying that I didn’t really want to find love. I wasn’t expecting to meet my future husband. To me, it really was just about dating again and putting myself out there.
And I guess the million-dollar question is, who do you have your money on to win the show?
Claudia and Austin 100%. They’re so genuine. Like, they’re the best couple.
They’ve had their ups and downs, but nothing that I think would result in them breaking up anytime soon.
Is this the end of reality TV for you?
I would definitely do TV again, but I think I would need a break from dating or love types of shows. I would like to do something a bit more practical.
I would love to go on The Amazing Race or The Block, some other type of game show where I actually get to use my brain.
I hate the idea that my time in the villa is really down to like the whim of a man and so out of your control. I think I’ve got lots of skills and talents to use in other areas that could get me a lot further.
