EXCLUSIVE: The Traitors twist that left Josh Packham ‘concerned’ and ‘lost’

The former The Block star told WHO that he had learned to "expect the unexpected" this late in the game.

The Traitors Australia has reached its penultimate episode, and it’s safe to say that this devious game of deception has only gotten more entertaining in its final days.

After traitors Kirby Bentley and Rhys Nicholson decided to murder Tully Smyth, five players entered the game’s finale – Josh Packham, Keira Maguire, Krissy Marsh, Kirby, and Rhys.

Three faithfuls. Two traitors. Not a single ounce of trust in that manor.

However, while the episode seemed to be moving in one direction from the very start, the Round Table was most certainly turned after the shock banishment of former The Block and Love Island Australia star Josh.

Speaking to WHO about his time on The Traitors, Josh revealed what his final moments on the show were really like, and what it was like playing the game “with a whole bunch of nutters still there at the end”.

How did Josh get banished from The Traitors?

In the lead-up to the Round Table on Tuesday night, September 8, Kirby had betrayed her fellow traitor Rhys and convinced Josh, Krissy, and Keira to trust her, floating the idea that Rhys could be a traitor.

This led to Keira placing all of her trust in the former Survivor player, and naming her as more trustworthy than fellow faithful Josh during host Gretel Killeen’s banquet challenge.

During the penultimate Round Table, Keira wielded a dagger that she had earnt during the day’s challenge, which meant that one of her votes at the Round Table would count as two.

This power ended up resulting in Josh’s elimination after some side-eyes and miscommunication convinced Keira that Josh was untrustworthy.

This completely upturned Krissy, Kirby, Josh, and Keira’s previously agreed-upon plan – which was to vote out Rhys – resulting in Josh’s banishment and Rhys’ growing distrust of fellow traitor Kirby after she was the only person to write their name.

‘I did not enter that room thinking I was getting banished’

If you’re a fan of The Traitors, you learn to expect the unexpected, and that was exactly Josh’s strategy going into the Finale.

While the player can live by this mantra with the beauty of hindsight and time behind him, in the moment, he admitted that he did not expect to leave the show the way he did.

“I was concerned that I didn’t really have a very straight path to victory after Tully went home,” Josh admitted to WHO. “I was really quite lost on that final day – I still wasn’t going to give up without a fight – but with Tully, things were just so clear and obvious to victory.

“But now, having to rely on Keira – who I was pretty certain was a faithful – to say, ‘Hey, don’t worry about everyone else. Let’s just go to the end together’ – it was going to be really difficult for me.”

He admitted that he “definitely wasn’t expecting to go out in that round table”, but suspected that he would “probably go out in the finale”.

Josh added: “You had a whole bunch of nutters still there at the end, you know. Expect the unexpected.”

‘I got a piece of my own medicine’

While Keira’s blindside vote may have looked like a betrayal, Josh didn’t take it that way.

“I was upset at the time, but it is what it is,” Josh confessed. “People were upset when I, obviously, was wrong and took them out, so I got a piece of my own medicine at the end of the day.

“And I’ll have to take it and swallow it down, you know. Live by the sword, die by the sword.”
