Scott Tweedie is no stranger to the world of hosting. While many of you may remember him from the Aussie hit Prank Patrol, he’s done a lot more than facilitate iconic pranks…

With a penchant for music, he was the co-host of music show The Loop as well as American pop culture news shows, E! News and Pop of the Morning.

More recently, he was named the co-host of the 2023 reboot of Australian Idol – alongside Idol alum, Ricki-Lee.

Despite his extensive hosting experience, when speaking with WHO exclusively, Tweedie revealed it’s actually his passion for music itself that makes his position so enjoyable.

“I’m just a fan of music in general. I’m that sort of person, when there is a beautiful song, I have tears in my eyes, I’ll be hugging those around me…”

“To put this into a job, and to be paid to be a part of a show, as big as Australian Idol – it’s an absolute dream come true. And basically, it’s not me working. It’s just me thriving and living my best life on this show.”

“Ricki-Lee is the best! I could not have asked for a better co-host.”

“We’ve had different journeys when it comes to hosting. But her and I, two Queenslanders standing next to each other, enjoying this journey together – it’s a real honour.”

To round out the Idol crew, Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie are joined by Meghan Trainor, Harry Connick Jr., Amy Shark, and Kyle Sandilands. Having worked closely with them during filming, Tweedie says, from Meghan Trainor “the hit machine” to Amy Shark “a homegrown legend”, “all four of them complement each other in different ways.”

As for what we can expect for the upcoming season, Tweedie says the Idol team scoured the nation for Australia’s best singers. Travelling across the country’s capital cities and select rural locations, he says the energy during auditions was electric.

“There was this feeling on set everywhere we went that I’ve never felt before on any other show. There’s a buzz around Australian Idol coming back, there’s a pride [and] it’s just really exciting.”

With the preliminary auditions airing from Monday January 30, over the first few episodes, we’ll see the judges narrow down the massive audition pool to a top 50.

From there, the competition will truly begin as contestant numbers are culled.

In the leadup to the live shows, Tweedie is “interested to see how these contestants who are such raw, genuinely great singers will grow.”

With the added pressure of a live band and TV audience, he says the singers will “go to another level.”

“I’m so excited to see who will rise to the occasion and who, unfortunately, will be knocked out of the competition.”
