Zoe Foster Blake reveals the ‘great cost’ of ‘doing it all’

The juggle is real

Like any young mum with a full time career Zoe Foster Blake is exhausted and she’s not ashamed to admit it.

Instead of posting Instagram photos of her “perfect” family life, the beloved Aussie celeb is keeping it real and she has recently opened up about how hard the juggle really is.

Foster Blake, who’s married to beloved Aussie comedian Hamish Blake, shares Sonny, eight, and Rudy, five, with the radio star. She’s also an author, a skincare entrepreneur and holder-together-er of all their family goings on.

“You get into that survivor mentality when you’re super slammed, and knowing it will calm down eventually is the carrot to dangle, but most women I know say, ‘It’s just how we live our life; things will calm down soon.’ Guess what? It doesn’t,” she told Stellar.

Along with the mental load balancing school and kid admin with running a multi-million dollar skincare company Foster Blake, 44, is currently writing a new book. And she says it’s a lot.

“My friends will text me and say, ‘Another book? How are you doing it all?’ There’s a genuine curiosity and my genuine answer is: at great cost – to my mental health, to my time with my family, to my physical health,” she said.

Does Zoe Foster Blake have a nanny?

You might expect that with money comes help. A lot of help. But Foster Blake has recently shared that she and her hubby do all the school drop offs and pick ups themselves.

“We previously had nannies and a lot more help, but now the kids are at school, we pick them up and drop them off every day — and that’s okay. I feel like I’m a lot more family-oriented now,” she told Mamamia.

Despite her many hats, it’s her mum one that holds the most sway.

“Our generation is really invested in parenting,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald. “We read a lot about it, we’re doing the work, we want to raise our kids the best we can. We want to treat it not like a job, but as a project.”

How does Zoe Foster Blake parent?

Explaining how it all works Foster Blake said her and her husband each take sections of the day to work or be in parent mode.

“Ordinarily, my husband does the school drop-offs,” she shared. “We’ve worked it out that he is good at morning drop-off and parking, and I get very triggered and panicked about being late.”

She is free to write in the morning when she said her brain is “fresh” and then come 2:30pm she switches to mum again.

“I’m compartmentalising a lot. I’m trying to write a novel. I’m running a business. And I’m a mum. And I try to have fun sometimes,” she said to Mamamia.

Pilates and walking are her go-to “me time” activities.

“I think walking is important, especially for mental health. I really need to get outside, especially being disorderly in my thoughts, and I get really good ideas when I walk as well,” she said.

Zoe Foster Blake and social media

Foster Blake used to share a lot of her life on social media but she said this has taken a backseat. Now her page is reserved for product recommendations and the odd holiday snap (like their recent family trip to Japan).

“We’re very private and we’re very boring,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald. “We’re just a normal family and I think our inclination to share our life has gone down a lot.”

Instead of documenting every minute she’s keen to soak it all in, particularly what she describes as theis “special time” when her kids are at an age where they “like to be around us.”

“We like to get away as much as possible,….And we’re going to pack in as many years as we can,” she said.
