Everyone’s favourite (fictional) royal Prince Henry who was brought to life by Nicholas Galitzine in Red, White & Royal Blue, is set to star in yet another regal role – this time in a limited series as a Duke.

The new period drama, titled Mary & George, is inspired by Benjamin Woolley’s non-fiction book The King’s Assassin, which chronicles the affair between King James I and George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham.

Nicholas of course stars in the lead role as George, but he’s joined by several other Hollywood heavyweights for the new series.

Below, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about Mary & George, including who is in the cast, where to watch it, the plot and more.

What is Mary & George about?

Mary & George is, as per the logline, an “audacious historical psychodrama about a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of its King”.

Sound familiar? That’s because it’s based on a true story and adapted from The King’s Assassin, which details how Mary Villiers tasked her son George to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England for power.

But, as the synopsis points out, as “George grows in power, his relationship with his mother will be pushed to the very limits. George must prove to himself that he can be defined by more than just his beauty”.

“He must make his mark on history, no matter the consequences.”
