Winter is well and truly heading our way, which means you’ll need a warm beanie to keep your noggin toasty and warm. It just so happens that Carrie Bickmore, co-host of The Project, has released a whole new range of her Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer headwear.
Bickmore launched the beanies and two brand new caps (which include styles for women, kids and men) on tonight’s special edition of The Project, which team WHO attended in Sydney. Guests of tonight’s edition included Amanda Keller, former Project co-host Hughsy, Tommy Little and Steve Price. There was also special performances from American band Portugal. The Man and Katie Noonan.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Noonan took to the piano to perform while photos of families touched by brain cancer flashed on the screen. By the end of the show, Price had performed his first stand-up comedy routine and Little had bungee jumped stark naked (except for the Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer hat covering his modesty) – all in the name of supporting Carrie and the work she is doing. And, moment before the credits rolled, Bickmore revealed that they had managed to raise $2.1 million so far!
For this year’s launch, Bickmore teamed up with Cotton On and Australia Post to deliver a range of snuggly and fashion-forward beanies right to your door. The Gold Logie Award winner became a vocal supporter of brain cancer research after losing her husband Greg Lange to the disease in 2010. Lange was only 34 years old at the time and had been battling brain cancer for nearly 10 years.
Bickmore went on to form the charity Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer and since 2015, they have raised a whopping $4.5 million for brain cancer research. This year, they’re hoping to raise a further $5 million, with the Australian Government committing to match every dollar raised up to $5 million in order to double the impact.
While brain cancer might not have affected you personally, it’s something that 1600 Australians are diagnosed with each year and a staggering 80 percent will die from the incurable cancer.
