In an exclusive interview with Pete Timbs, on the WHO ARE YOU podcast, he opens up about some of the challenges he’s faced while in the spotlight.

WHO: In 2004 you had the Drink Driving charge, how does that make you feel in front of your friends and family? And the whole nation?

That was a bit surprising that there was a camera crew there to capture it. But living in the bush a lot of people go through that, so I didn’t seem special for that. I mean the biggest thing I learned was that when I did go back home to visit family members I didn’t have a license to drive 5ks into town to take my boys to see their grandparents and down to their great grand dad’s property. That hit home for me and that’s why I always make sure I do the right thing.

It’s not about the backlash or the focus of the media. It was always about what my family missed out on because of it. That’s why it’s always been something I’ve learned a lesson from.

WHO: More recently, you were charged with the assault of the bouncer – they were later dropped but can you shed some light on it?

That’s one of the pitfalls of having a public profile. Lots of people jump to conclusions. As they did that time. I’m just stoked that the truth came out and there’s no evidence I was the only one who got bashed that night and didn’t do anything that warranted getting arrested at all.

Shannon has had plenty of ups and downs since his rise to fame and has found himself in the headlines again this week. Hear what he say to say in the debut episode of Who Are You, available now. Listen below or subscribe on iTunes  http://po.st/RxVC07 or OMNY http://po.st/SedGya
