For two Queenslanders, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have done pretty well for themselves.
The pair play star-crossed lovers Catherine and Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s highly-anticipated adaptation of Wuthering Heights and the press tour is what we all need right now.
Whilst the fashionistas are obsessed with Margot’s gothic outfits that she’s been wearing for every premiere, it’s her relationship with her co-star that has fans talking.
The two clearly built a strong bond together on set but they go back further than you think. In fact, it was Margot who suggested that Emerald cast Jacob as Felix in cult favourite Saltburn.
Looking out for his leading lady
At the London Wuthering Heights premiere, the rain predictably hit the red carpet, but Jacob wouldn’t let it put a dampener on things.
As he and Margot walked off the red carpet, the 28-year-old actor was seen shielding Margot’s head.
We bet that hairstyling took hours so glad someone appreciates all the effort that went into it!
Margot’s special gift to Jacob
The co-stars also have a physical memento of their Wuthering Heights experience after British Vogue revealed that Margot gifted her main man a matching signet ring ahead of the film’s press tour.
Cece Jewellery’s Cece Fein-Hughes told the publication that the two chunky gold rings symbolise the relationship between their characters Catherine and Heathcliff.
The design features two hand-enamelled skulls locked in an embrace and surrounded by thorns, “to symbolise both bittersweet love and the harshness of nature” and an inscription of author Emily Brontë’s quote, “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”
They also have Cathy and Heathcliff’s initials and “1847-2026”, referring to the year the book was published and the year of their film’s release.

‘Loving’ the difficult emotions of Wuthering Heights
Whilst many of us would feel awkward filming such emotionally and physically intimate scenes with someone, for Margot and Jacob they loved it.
“The opportunity, in all seriousness, to play something that’s real and textured and layered and then meet someone on stage with that and then play together, that’s the whole sort of point of the job for me,” Jacob told IMDb.
“Once we’re comfortable working together, it’s like, I want to keep pushing him as well and then see how much further he can push it and he can push me,” Margot added.

‘He’s mine!’
Jacob confessed in a chat published by Vogue Australia, “I really didn’t like shooting when Margot wasn’t there,” with Margot echoing the sentiments that she “hated shooting” when Jacob wasn’t there.
Margot even mused that when Jacob was away filming with Alison Oliver and she with Shazad Latif, that “this is just not right” adding, “Love them more than anything. But I was like, he’s mine!”
When asked how he and Margot built trust on set, Jacob spoke of the pair’s shared love.
“It was just an immediacy to the relationship cause we’re both such lovers of the cinema and of the movies. We share a common dream so it’s easy to get along with someone like that,” Jacob told MTV UK.
The affair baiting debate
Wuthering Heights is known for its intense and romantic themes, and the press tour has been no different.
Margot recalled in an interview with Access Hollywood how “gentleman” Jacob immediately went to cover her face from the rain during filming.
“He was not aware that he had done anything chivalrous or romantic at all. And we were just like ‘That was one of the most romantic things I’ve ever experienced,'” she said.
Jacob told Variety, “As a human being and as an artist she’s the true full package. Regardless of plot or screenplay, if you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you’re going to make sure you’re within five to 10 metres at all times watching how she drinks tea, how she eats her food. I don’t know how somebody has the skill and the wisdom to do that as a performer and to give the performance that she gave, but I was enamoured.”

But after several borderline romantic quotes from both Margot (who is married to Tom Ackerley) and Jacob, many believe that the two are amping it up for publicity.
It’s a tactic used on many recent films including Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s Anyone But You and Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson’s The Naked Gun.
Oh well, we’re on board regardless.
