During the Commitment Ceremony, hard truths were delivered and awkward decisions were made, leaving one MAFS groom in tears.
From Danny being pressed by expert Mel on how he feels about asking Bec to be his girlfriend to Gia being served some hard truths, it’s certainly getting to the pointy end of the season. However, all eyes were firmly on Chris and Sam tonight, as Chris’ decision to leave the show left everyone stunned – including Sam.
Now, I know I’m not Sam’s type, but if he has achieved anything during his time on MAFS, it’s making audiences swoon over his emotional intelligence. It’s a bit sad that a man actually expressing his emotions is somehow a stand-out quality (although, that’s a social issue for another time), but either way, it seems Sam’s effort, empathy, and willingness to work through the ugly to get to the gold has fans (and myself) sighing from the refreshment.
Although, it looks like Chris doesn’t see Sam in quite the same light. While we may be missing some behind-the-scenes moments, we may also just have another Luke and Mel situation on our hands…and I don’t now if I have the strength to watch another “nice guy” get fumbled by the experiment.
Can this previously fan-favourite couple survive another week, or was this moment the beginning of the end?
What made MAFS groom Sam break down in tears?
It’s safe to say that Feedback Week was rough for Chris and Sam.
From a dinner party confrontation to lots of apologies (genuine and not) and behind-the-scenes footage of Chris and Gia mocking Sam, fans have been gobsmacked watching this strong couple fall from their throne.
However, while Sam tried to have an honest conversation about how he was feeling with Chris on the couch, it seems Chris had already given up.
Despite their difficulties, Sam was open to learning from the experts’ feedback and admitted that he’s okay with making more “sacrifices.” His only request was that he wanted to see more “empathy” from Chris in both his tone and communication style.
Chris accepted from expert John that he may be allowing past “fears” to grow his “anger” towards Sam.
However, in the end, he shocked Sam, the experts, and the other contestants (well, maybe not Gia) when he wrote “LEAVE” on his decision card, claiming that he had to “put [his] dad hat on and leave.”
This pushed Sam to tears as he was under the impression that they were both open to “feedback” and leaving the experiment with “no regrets.”
Instead, he was appalled to see Chris had “given up.”

Will Sam and Chris’ relationship survive the ‘sacrifices’?
On the bright side, after Sam awkwardly revealed his decision to stay, the couple now have one more week in the experiment to figure things out.
Taking on John’s advice to “treat each other in a friendly way”, the pair will hopefully work through what it takes to make sacrifices for each other in their relationship.
While videos circulating on social media and the recent After the Dinner Party episode don’t bode well for the couple’s future, fans are still holding on to Sam’s hope and his willingness to make “90% of the sacrifices” in his and Chris’ relationship.
Hopefully, Chris sees this effort, takes some time off his friendship with Gia (who fans immediately pinned as a bad influence), and is willing to meet Sam half-way. Time will tell!
