The Oscars are done and dusted for another year, marking the end of awards season 2026.
Ahead of the ceremony, there were some wins we knew would happen (Jessie Buckley, we’re looking at you) but others that caught us by surprise.
After Timothée Chalamet’s controversial comments about ballet and opera, many confessed he subconsciously ruined his chances.
Take a look at this year’s Oscars snubs.
Rose Byrne

Flying the flag for Australia with her first Oscar nomination was Rose Byrne.
Nominated for Best Actress In A Leading Role for her film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, she won a Golden Globe but missed out on the Academy Award.
Jessie Buckley won the category for her performance in Hamnet.
Timothée Chalamet

Despite winning the Critics’ Choice Award for his role in Marty Supreme, Timothée didn’t take home the Oscar.
Instead, Michael B. Jordan won the Best Actor In A Leading Role for their performance in Sinners.
However, the 30-year-old may have shot himself in the foot during an interview just days before the awards ceremony.
While discussing the power of cinema with Interstellar co-star Matthew McConaughey, Timothée angered many by referring to ballet and opera as struggling art forms.
“I don’t want to be working in ballet, or opera, or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though, like no one cares about this anymore.’ All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there.”
Jacob Elordi

Another Aussie nomination, but it wasn’t Jacob’s year.
The Queensland-born actor was nominated for his performance as The Creature in Frankenstein, but the Best Supporting Actor prize was awarded instead to Sean Penn for his performance in One Battle After Another.
Funnily enough, Sean wasn’t even present to accept his award!
Teyana Taylor

One Battle After Another star Teyana won the Best Supporting Actress gong at the Golden Globes but was beaten at the Oscars by Amy Madigan for her performance in Weapons.
The race was close to call as Sinners’ Wunmi Mosaku won the BAFTA whilst Madigan won the Actor Award.
Stars left out of In Memoriam segment

Several stars were missing from the Oscars In Memoriam segment.
James Van Der Beek, who passed away on February 11, 2026, from stage III colorectal cancer, was one of the stars who didn’t appear in the segment. While he was best known for his roles in TV, he also appeared in films such as Varsity Blues, Scary Movie, Sidelined, and more.
Robert Carradine, who was well known for his role in Lizzie McGuire, was also not included, despite appearing in Django Unchained, Revenge of the Nerds, and The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
Eric Dane, who died on February 19 due to complications from ALS, was also missing from the In Memoriam. He appeared in films like Valentine’s Day, X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me and more.
KPop Demon Hunters songwriters cut off onstage

While the KPop Demon Hunters team won Best Original Song for ‘Golden’, fans were fuming when their acceptance speech was abruptly cut off mid-speech.
As the first-ever K-pop song to receive this honour, it was disappointing for songwriters Ejae, Mark Sonnenblick, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo and Teddy Park to have their time on stage cut off.
