Matt Agnew releases official statement ahead of The Bachelor finale

Wow!

Ahead of the season finale of The Bachelor, Matt Agnew all but confirmed we won’t be seeing his family on tonight’s episode. Taking to Instagram, the hunky astrophysicist shared a photo alongside his two best friends, one of them being Kate— yeah, the one that can’t stand Abbie!

“On the last few steps of this journey, it’s my closest friends; my Melbourne family, that I turn to for advice and support,” he captioned the collage of the trio smiling while in Africa!

Although the picture doesn’t seem to show much, it does prove that Matt won’t be introducing his loved ones to the woman of his dreams just yet.

Every year, the final two contestants vying for the Bachelor’s heart get to meet someone from his family! While they usually cop a grilling— with the dad always questioning whether their intentions are pure the winner usually ends up seamlessly fitting in with his family!

This is a standard Bachie procedure – until now.

We’re yet to meet (or really hear anything about) Matt Agnew’s loved ones.

This is really all we know:

– He’s the youngest of four

– He has two older brothers and a sister

– They all call him “Little Matty”

– He grew up in Adelaide however his family later relocated to Perth when he was in year seven.

Matt’s given no reason for viewers to think he’s had a falling out with his siblings, so our guess is he’s just hoping to keep that area of his life private— and honestly, we don’t blame him… we’d probably do the same if our face was plastered all over the TV!

We do, however, know a lot about his best friend Kate!

“Kate is one of my best mates,” Matt told us on the show. “We have known each other for over 20 years, we have shared a load of memories together and I am delighted to be part of her groom’s party next year. Kate knows me. She knows my life in Melbourne.”

We were first introduced to the astrophysicist’s childhood friend during one of the early group dates. The blonde beauty was brought into the mansion as the 32-year-old’s wing-woman and was tasked with deciphering who she thought Matt had the best connection with.

“I am really excited for her to meet and get to know the girls. I trust her explicitly. I brought Kate along to have a friend there, a wing woman because at this point I feel like I have some real strong connections with a lot of the girls,” Matt said before he introduced her to all the ladies vying for his affection.

Agreeing that Chelsie McLeod and Matt had the most in common, she made it pretty clear from the get-go that she wasn’t a fan of this year’s villain Abbie Chatfield— who, interestingly, is one of the final two ladies in the running to score the final rose

“Abbie seems lovely but she said in one sentence that marriage isn’t necessarily the be-all and end all for her, and then in another part of the conversation was that she’d be ready in five years,” she told Matt during their debrief. “don’t think she is here for the same reasons as you. I think she is saying what you want to hear.”

Matt was understandably shook.

It’s a bit of a bombshell, to be honest.”

But it wasn’t enough to get Abbie— who’s been at the centre of basically every drama we’ve seen so far this season— sent home.

While, of course, I value Kate’s opinion, I know what Abbie and I have,” revealed Matt, “and I’m not sure that I’m ready to throw that all away.”

FYI, Kate makes another appearance on The Bachelor TONIGHT… and things with the 23-year-old don’t go to plan.

In a new promo for the season finale, Kate can be seen telling another of Matt’s closest pals that she would be “surprised” if Abbie had made it to the end.

“I’m almost certain that Kate just doesn’t want me to end up with Matt,” says Abbie, who is probably right on the money, tbh.

“I’ve gotta be honest… I was surprised to hear that you had come down to the final two,” Kate tells her.

“She’s horrible,” a visibly distressed Abbie says in a piece to camera, before Kate is seen storming out of her chat with the property analyst!

“Kate has just left,” Abbie is heard saying through tears. “Like, what the actual f–k?”
