There have been many reasons the contestants have clashed on this season of The Block, with everything from dirty dishes to “intimidations” causing tension.
However, while this has all played out, there has been one constant thing riling fans up, and it’s all centred around Courtney and Sev, and the ‘help’ they continue to get.
There have been many examples viewers have pointed at: the Cursio brothers being pulled from House 2 to help finish their bathrooms, the Nine in Six team covering their tradies cost after a tiling mishap, the judges seemingly being “biased” towards them.
The ‘extra help’ is something Courtney and Sev have previously denied to WHO, but it’s something Tayla couldn’t help but call out when she was last speaking to us.
Tayla claims production never stepped in to help her or Rick
Tayla told WHO that, as she’s watched the show back, she had the same thought about Courtney and Sev.
“I’ll tell you right now, from what I do see and what I have seen in the previous episodes, Nine in Six never stepped in for us if we needed something,” she said.
“They had Nine in Six, this is previous weeks, ages ago, but like, I don’t know, I just feel like…”
Rick then cut her off, saying, yes, it did look like they’d had a hand from plasters and maybe “with the heavier stuff, they might get a lift with materials” but it didn’t make all that much of a difference.

Tayla then countered the sentiment, questioning why Nine in Six didn’t help Lisa and Rosco the week they didn’t finish their bathroom, but helped Courtney and Sev when they were in the same position.
“They jumped in and helped Courtney, I don’t get that,” Tayla claimed.
Ultimately, Rick commended the girls’ approach to ask for help.
“They pushed the boundaries and got away with a lot, you know, and it’s showing, because, as I said, they’re winning every week and they’ve got budget in order to do these kinds of things in their rooms where, you know, we’re pulling at shoe strings to do ours,” Rick replied.
Courtney and Sev respond to criticism
Speaking previously to WHO, Courtney and Sev said they were fed up with the narrative that only they were getting help.
While production and tradies may have stepped in at varying degrees to assist with the teams, the girls believe the edit is painting them in a bad light.
“It is unfortunate that we are getting the narrative that we can’t finish without help from the boys,” Courtney and Sev said.
“We are getting backlash, but every single contestant is getting help every single day from Nine in Six and Scotty and Shelley,” Courtney continued. “They aren’t just favouring us. That’s just what’s being shown.
“It’s really hurtful and upsetting to Sev and I.”
