Big Brother’s game has begun and no housemate is safe.
The much-anticipated reboot returned with a new look house, new rules and new format, which dramatically changes the way housemates are evicted.
WATCH: First look at the 2020 housemates entering the house.
Each episode sees the housemates compete in a new challenge, and the winner receives the power to nominate three fellow housemates for eviction.
The strategic change shocked housemates, but it certainly creates drama and some great entertainment.
“They’ll either vote for whoever has played a brilliant strategic game or they may vote with their heart and go with the person they love the most,” host Sonia Kruger told New Idea in a recent interview.
“Things get a little bit awkward and heated,” she added.
It’s no longer a matter of voting out clashing personalities over house chore squabbles, annoying habits and even loud snoring – the housemates have to be strategic and calculated.
Much like Survivor, housemates are now voting to keep themselves in the game and increase their chances of making it as close to that $250,000 prize as possible.
“It’s such a fun thing to watch play out,” Sonia told WHO, referring to the added dose of drama.
“I know it’s sort of wrong, but if that’s wrong, I don’t want to be right!”
Sonia says the threat of eviction every episode, coupled with challenges, keeps both the housemates and viewers on their toes.
“Twenty years ago we would watch a housemate make a sandwich in the kitchen and we all thought that was amazing!
“But times have changed and our viewing habits have become more sophisticated – we want an outcome every episode, we want a really strong hook for the next night and this new series has got all of that in spades.”
Take a peek below at which housemates have been told “it’s time to go” so far.
Laura
The feisty “Fiji warrior princess” was the first housemate sent packing after just one night in the Big Brother house.
After failing to fit in and ruffling more than a few feathers when trying to take charge of the house rations, Laura was evicted.
Allan
In an almost unanimous vote, strategic game player Allan was the second housemate to be evicted from the house.
Allan revealed to New Idea he was so “blindsided” by his eviction, he believed it was fake at the time.
Soobong
After a grand entrance into the Big Brother house, being dropped in cage by a crane, newcomer Soobong and his impeccable strength and agility were immediately labeled a threat.
Only spending one day in the house, the 48-year-old delivery driver was evicted.
Talia
Queen Bee of the Big Brother house, Talia Rycroft was eliminated in a brutal blindside by Angela. Nominating tight knit group Talia, Daniel and Casey, the house was divided as they were forced to vote out Talia.
Danni
After Kieran began spinning little white lies the Big Brother rumour mill spun out of control and Danni found herself caught in the middle before ultimately being evicted.
Angela
Housemates thought they’d finally managed to evict one the game’s strongest housemates – Angela.
But, Big Brother had a twist and sent her to his secret bunker before allowing her back into the house.
Ian
With Angela secretly pulling the strings from her secret bunker, Ian was evicted in a shock blindside that had his housemates in tears.
Garth
When Garth found himself up for nomination against Daniel Gorringe, it seemed as though it would be a close vote.
But at the last-minute, Xavier Molyneux revealed that Garth had been involved in Angela’s first eviction from the house, which all but secured his fate.
Zoe
Mummy-blogger Zoe hardly stood a chance when nominated alongside Dan and Mat, and she knew it.
Shane
After attempting to take out Mat and failing, Shane’s fate was all but written on the walls of the Big Brother house.
