MasterChef’s hygiene is making fans go ‘crazy’

While MasterChef has many loyal fans, it’s also the type of reality TV show that leaves people with many burning questions.

When it came to the question of how strict production is with the contestants culinary hygiene, fans had some serious thoughts that posed a threat to the show’s loyal fanbase.

“I swear if I see a contestant wipe their face with their tea towel, or use a spoon to taste something, and then go back to stirring with that same spoon one more time I’m goona go crazy,” a fan wrote online.

“The lack of hygiene is disgusting sometimes.”

“If not hair nets, at least hair should be tied,” another agreed. “I wonder how judges feel when they see contestants not following health standards and then they have to eat it.”

“I also never see them wash their hands or vegetables. But maybe that’s edited or produce is already clean and ready to go,” a third chimed in.

What did Andy Allen say about MasterChef’s hygiene rules?

Andy spoke to WHO and responded to the backlash the show has received. This year, it seems the show has definitely taken fans’ comments on board.

“They [the contestants] do get pretty strict training at the start of the season and they’re constantly reminded,” Andy said. “There’ll be a producer from the food team looking after each bench and if they go to double dip or anything like that, they’re there to stop them, and remind them, and trying to get the safest practise that we can in terms of hygiene.

“But you can only do what you can do, right? Like, it’s one of those ones that as much as we can try and control the situation, things are going to slip through the cracks.”

Andy compared the process to cooking at home.

“I’m sure that when you’re at home, you double dip, you put your fingers into the bowl and see how it’s going,” he said.

“It’s hard [not] to break some of those habits. We do definitely, definitely try, and it can never be perfect, unfortunately.”

So, while the production team and contestants do what they can, hygiene habits picked up at home are often the biggest culprit.
