Jane and Shane are the last team to cook in Round 1 of the home cooking reality competition. After being highly critical of the other teams, the food stylist and her partner have set some high expectations for themselves, and the other contestants have admitted that they are not holding back in their critiques.

After controversial comments about being a “taster, not an eater”, focusing on plating aesthetic over food flavour, and claiming that the $100,000 prize money wouldn’t be “life-changing” for them, fans have also geared up for their Instant Restaurant, with many hoping that they will fail.

However, the show’s focus on the “drama” over cooking has become a gripe for many fans, as many “doubt [they’ll] ever watch this again” since it’s now “less about the food and more about the personalities”.

Speaking to WHO, Tiffany and Giancarlo revealed that they had a very similar reaction.

Fans are itching to see Jane and Shane fail

Given how divisive Jane and Shane have been this season, a lot of fans are looking forward to not only seeing them cook, but also seeing if they can live up to the strong critiques that they’ve had all season.

“Bring on their turn, very high expectations waiting here,” one fan wrote online.

“The highlights of their cook look disastrous,” another wrote, referencing the teaser for the episode posted online. “Jane looks so flustered, just how I thought it would go.”

“Can’t wait for them to fail cooking,” a third chimed in.

Many fans also pointed out how Jane and Shane have made things hard for themselves by being so critical, especially given that the other contestants have an impact over their score.

“The problem with putting other contestants down and belittling them at every opportunity is that eventually it will be your turn to cook and be judged,” one viewer pointed out. “I really don’t think that [Jane and Shane] will be judged on [their] cooking, as I am sure that most of the teams have already decided how they will vote when it comes to [their] turn.”

Tiffany and Giancarlo expected drama from My Kitchen Rules, but not this

Tiffany and Giancarlo are big fans of the show, which is why they didn’t expect the focus to be more about the drama than the cooking.

“You know with My Kitchen Rules that you’re going to be sat at the table with people from all different experiences, backgrounds, and personalities,” Tiffany told WHO. “It’s part of it, and that’s what makes it exciting and rewarding, especially when you do a good job.”

“I was surprised at the clash between everyone for sure, because I thought there would be a lot more compassion and empathy between the teams,” Giancarlo added. “That was surprising to me that everyone was ready to call each other out and hike you up quite a bit because that’s not our style.

“I mean, obviously we’ve all seen MKR through the years, so we know there’s drama. We just thought, I don’t know, we just didn’t expect it. We were still taken by surprise.”
