EXCLUSIVE: MAFS bride stuns with savage dinner party attack

An expert tells WHO what lies beneath Juliette's behaviour.

The fourth dinner party for MAFS 2026 rolled in tonight (March 4), and a storm definitely broke out, with one bride in particular jumping on the ‘tirade trend’ that seems to be characterising this season.

As feelings of embarrassment and shame boiled into degrading power plays and the throwing around of words like “gaslighting” and “masculinity” (yet again), WHO spoke to self-worth and relationship coach Cosmina Naum to explain where this behaviour could be stemming from.

“Sometimes what’s actually being threatened isn’t the relationship, but image,” she told WHO.

While Juliette entered the dinner party committed to pretending that everything in her and Joel’s relationship was “fun” and fine, Joel wasn’t afraid to be honest about their “tumultuous” truth. Ironically, this honesty is what triggered Juliette to call Joel a “liar” over and over again, in front of everyone.

From claiming that Joel said he was a “star” in a fight between the pair the day before to exposing to the group that he still sleeps with a “teddy bear”, Juliette certainly had a bone to pick with Joel and his (*checks notes*) “devil eyes.”

What was Juliette so embarrassed about?

In a fight between the couple during Crash Course Week on Tuesday, March 2, Joel exclaimed that Juliette doesn’t “see the star in [him]”. However, Juliette seems to have misheard him, telling everyone that he appointed himself the “star of the show.”

Juliette! Don’t dim your man’s sparkle!

However, it looks like Juliette has chosen to die on this hill, yelling to the table repeatedly that he is a “liar” for denying saying he “is a star” and telling producers that she expects an apology from the aspiring drummer.

Unfortunately, it didn’t end there…

Revved and ready for more, Juliette reveals to the group that she’s been “keeping her cool” (oh really?), that Joel is “so cringe”, and that “he sleeps with a teddy bear at night.”

For what was perhaps the first time ever at a MAFS dinner party, silence fell across the room, as it did in our living rooms at home…

WHO spoke to Cosmina about why this 31-year-old groom still holds on to his favourite childhood toy.

“An adult sleeping with a teddy bear is rarely about immaturity,” she said. “It’s usually about comfort, safety or familiarity. Objects can become symbolic anchors – regulating the nervous system, representing continuity or holding emotional meaning.”

“So the real question isn’t the teddy. It’s the meaning behind it. What does it represent to him? Comfort? Emotional grounding?”

While many of the other couples reacted to this new side of Joel with wide eyes and open mouths, Rachel simply said to producers: “my gut is saying ‘I don’t care'”. Same Rachel, same.

So, why is this such a sore spot for Juliette?

Cosmina tells WHO that for Juliette, what’s being “threatened isn’t the relationship, but image”, causing her to lash out.

“His behaviour may feel embarrassing to her, not because it harms her directly, but because it reflects on her,” she said. “Mocking him publicly can become a way of signalling: ‘I don’t endorse this. I’m not like him.'”

Cosmina tells WHO how Juliette’s approach to her embarrassment of Joel is “social distancing”, eroding “respect” and collapsing their “connection.”

“When someone feels unsettled or ashamed, they often create distance to protect their identity,” she said. “Mockery becomes a performance of separation.”

Juliette doesn’t think Joel is “manly”

On top of all this, Gia decides it’s an appropriate time to pipe in with the age-old misunderstood term of masculinity, asking Joel to the table if he “thinks sleeping with a teddy bear is manly.” Necessary? No.

This only encouraged Juliette more as she says she’s “not married to a man.”

However, Cosmina defines what healthy masculinity actually is for WHO, explaining that it “isn’t dominance, it’s integrity.”

“It looks like emotional regulation without emotional avoidance,” she said. “Strength without control. Leadership without superiority. Vulnerability without shame.”

While Scott and Danny stood up for Joel, with Danny arguing that Joel is “more of a man” than any of them for being open and secure about still owning a teddy bear, Juliette dismissed this camaraderie with more distasteful comments.

“I like the teddy more than I like Joel,” Juliette said. “The teddy isn’t a c–t to me like Joel is.”

Necessary? Absolutely not.

How did Joel respond to Juliette’s comments?

Despite the onslaught of attacks from Juliette, Joel responds peacefully, telling Juliette that he’s “never put [her] down once.”

This one-way communication style was noticed by the experts, and everyone else at the table, with Scott and Danny once again pointing out to Juliette that Joel has been nothing but “respectful” to her the whole night.

Cosmina comments on this difference in communication style.

“You don’t have to accept everything. But you are responsible for how you communicate it,” she told WHO. “You can express discomfort with honesty, or you can express it through contempt.”

“Contempt erodes attraction faster than almost anything else. If something truly clashes with your values or desire, the empowered choice is to leave, not to stay and shame.”

Fingers crossed Juliette faces some hard truths at the Commitment Ceremony and realises that perhaps she, too, has some insecurities to work out.
